Google Analytics Connector Overview

This section of the user guide is focused on Google Analytics. To help you navigate the article we have broken it down into the following sections:

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a SaaS-based analytics tool that allows users to pull data from their sites, and use the Google platform to visualize the data through dynamic dashboards.

How does the Ocelot Google Analytics Connector work?

The steps to configure the Google Analytics connector will depend on the product.

Virtual Assistant

The Ocelot Virtual Assistant is pre-configured to work with Google Analytics. The virtual assistant will check the website for Google Analytics. If Google Analytics is enabled, the virtual assistant will automatically stream data or events to it.

Note: Google is transitioning from Google Analytics 3 (GA3) to Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

Institutions can configure Google Analytics 4 at any time. Data and event properties will be automatically collected with the new version. If using a Google Tag Manager-based connector, you will need to configure a new Google Analytics: GA4 Event type tag for each event, chatbot_open, chatbot_close, message_sent.

If a connector has not migrated to GA4 by July 1, 2023, Google Analytics 3 will no longer function.

For more information on migrating to Google Analytics 4, review the Introducing the next generation of Analytics, Google Analytics 4 article.

The data will show up in Google Analytics under the Ocelot category.

The following data points or events are sent to Google Analytics:

  • chatbot_open: When a user opens the virtual assistant
  • chatbot_close: When a user closes the virtual assistant
  • message_send: When a user sends a message to the virtual assistant or live agent

GetAnswers (Video Portal)

To include the GetAnswers video portal analytics you will need to provide Ocelot with the Google Analytics Measurement ID.

To provide Ocelot with the Google Analytics Measurement ID submit a Support Ticket.
