Test Your Virtual Assistant in Staging


This section of the user guide is focused on testing your virtual assistant in staging. To help you navigate the article we have broken it down into the following sections:

What is Staging?

The staging feature allows specific virtual assistant knowledge base AI Department Learning Models and/or offices to be accessible only in the admin portal and not active in an embedded virtual assistant that is live on the website. 


Staged AI Department Learning Models allow you to create and test virtual assistant content before the content is made live. This feature is useful for clients rolling out multiple departments or offices across campus and on different timelines for each department's rollout.


The staging feature allows users to differentiate between live AI Department Learning Models and AI Department Learning Models still in testing and development. By designating specific AI Department Learning Models to be categorized as "staged," the content will continue to be editable and testable until the client determines the content is ready to go live. Clients may have some AI Department Learning Models available in the live virtual assistant while simultaneously continuing to build out and test other content AI Department Learning Models in staging.


Offices can also be placed in staging. Offices in staging will not show as an option when the virtual assistant asks to contact an office. 


Who has access to Staging?

The Test my Virtual Assistant feature is available to individuals with the following permissions:

How do I place a content AI Department Learning Model in Staging?

Currently, placing content into staging is not a self-serve item. 


Submit a Support Ticket to request for certain content AI Department Learning Models
or offices to be placed in staging so that you can test that content without it being live in an embedded virtual assistant.



How do I test Staged content in the admin portal?

To test staging AI Department Learning Models in the admin portal, Test my Virtual Assistant must be set to include staging data:  

  • Open Test my Virtual Assistant, select the kebab menu and toggle on "Knowledge base - including staging data".  
  • Test my Virtual Assistant can now be used to tested staging AI Department Learning Model content, as well as live AI Department Learning Model content.  
  • The staging data toggle will remain engaged until the conversation is cleared, the page is refreshed or the user signs/times out of the admin.






How does staging look within the knowledge base?

AI Department Learning Models placed in staging will display a "Staging Only" tag within the General Library page.




Submit a Support Ticket when your testing is complete to make the office and/or library live within your virtual assistant.
